How to Cook a Steak

  1. Choose your steak
Pick a good cut of beef, like ribeye, sirloin, or T-bone.

  2. Let it rest at room temperature
Take the steak out of the fridge about 30 minutes before cooking so it cooks evenly.

  3. Season the steak
Rub both sides with salt and pepper. You can also add garlic powder or herbs if you like.

  4. Heat your pan or grill
Use a cast iron pan or grill. Heat it on high until it's very hot.

  5. Add oil or butter
Add a little oil with a high smoke point (like canola or avocado oil). You can also add butter for flavor later.

  6. Cook the steak
Place the steak on the hot surface.

    • For medium-rare, cook about 3–4 minutes per side.

    • Adjust the time based on how thick the steak is and how well you want it done.

  7. Flip only once
Let it sear on one side, then flip it once to cook the other side.

  8. Optional: Add butter and herbs
During the last minute, you can add a spoon of butter, garlic, and rosemary to the pan and spoon it over the steak.

  9. Rest the steak
Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for 5–10 minutes. This keeps it juicy.

  10. Serve and enjoy!
Slice the steak if needed and serve it with your favorite side dishes.
