How to Cook a Steak
-
Choose your steak
Pick a good cut of beef, like ribeye, sirloin, or T-bone. -
Let it rest at room temperature
Take the steak out of the fridge about 30 minutes before cooking so it cooks evenly. -
Season the steak
Rub both sides with salt and pepper. You can also add garlic powder or herbs if you like. -
Heat your pan or grill
Use a cast iron pan or grill. Heat it on high until it's very hot. -
Add oil or butter
Add a little oil with a high smoke point (like canola or avocado oil). You can also add butter for flavor later. -
Cook the steak
Place the steak on the hot surface.-
For medium-rare, cook about 3–4 minutes per side.
-
Adjust the time based on how thick the steak is and how well you want it done.
-
-
Flip only once
Let it sear on one side, then flip it once to cook the other side. -
Optional: Add butter and herbs
During the last minute, you can add a spoon of butter, garlic, and rosemary to the pan and spoon it over the steak. -
Rest the steak
Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for 5–10 minutes. This keeps it juicy. -
Serve and enjoy!
Slice the steak if needed and serve it with your favorite side dishes.
